At Tanim Talino, we understand and respect the importance of intellectual property rights, especially when it comes to the wonderful ideas that Filipino high school students develop during their STEM research. This post explains Tanim Talino’s commitment to your intellectual property rights and the potential risks you should consider when submitting your research or a portion of it for a consultation.
Our Commitment to You
Tanim Talino will never claim ownership of any intellectual property rights over the content you submit to us for consultation. The ideas, innovations, or inventions that you develop are yours, and Tanim Talino will do its best to protect your full ownership of these ideas. Likewise, Tanim Talino will not generate unique written content for you, or develop a research topic for you from scratch, because we recognize that we own these ideas. Our main goal is to provide support to help you improve your original research and reach your educational goals.
Understanding the Risks
It is very important to know that when you share your research with us, you are potentially exposing your ideas to other people aside from Tanim Talino. This includes risks of data breaches or hacking, as these are unfortunate possibilities. While we implement security measures to protect your data, we cannot guarantee complete protection from these risks.
In the Philippines, like in many other countries, the intellectual property rights for an invention are granted to the person who first files an application to register the invention with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL). This is known as the “first-to-file” system. Therefore, if you’ve created something that you believe is novel and patentable, it is crucial to consider whether you should file a application for protection first before disclosing your invention publicly or to third parties.
Even when your research may not lead to a patent or utility model, submitting written text to us may still put you at risk of plagiarism by third parties. This is why we do not recommend you upload your research to untrusted websites for services such as grammar checking or plagiarism detection.
Your Acceptance of Risk and Our Liability
By submitting your manuscript or a portion of it to Tanim Talino, you acknowledge and accept these potential risks. You should consider seeking advice or contacting the IPOPHL directly if you believe your research involves an invention that could be patented, and you’re concerned about protecting your intellectual property rights.
Please understand that Tanim Talino cannot assume responsibility for any damages or losses you may suffer as a result of these risks. Protecting your intellectual property is your responsibility. Tanim Talino encourages students to learn more about intellectual property rights and to take the steps necessary to protect their work.
To minimize risks, if you do decide to send in something you’ve written or prepared, it may be better to only send in a limited snippet and not a complete document. If you’re unsure with the consultation, please make sure to check in with your research teacher first.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us through email at info@tanimtalino.org.
